Introduction

Little Lourdes College of Nursing , Kidangoor  had initiated National Service Scheme in the year 2020. We have submitted the application to KUHS NSS cell for the approval of new unit in our college on 2019 July and we got an acceptance letter on 23rd  December 2020.

Vision:

The vision of the NSS Unit is to create or uplift the mind of students to serve the people especially the poor and suffering through health care services following Christian values andrespecting the human rights and needs.

Mission

The youth of this college develop their potential both in academicals and quality health care services with the focus on motto “NOT ME BUT YOU”

Objectives:

  • Understand the community in which they work
  • Understand themselves in relation to their community
  • Identify the needs and problems of the community and involve them in problem solving process
  • Develop among themselves a sense of social and civic responsibility
  • Utilize their knowledge in finding practical solution to individual and community problems.
The Motto

The motto or watchword of the NSS is: “NOT ME BUT YOU” This reflects the essence of democratic living and upholds the need for selfless service and appreciation of the other person’s point of view and also to show consideration for fellow human beings. It underlines that the welfare of an individual is ultimately dependent on the welfare of society on the whole. Therefore, it should be the aim of the NSS to demonstrate this motto in its day-to-day programme.

NSS Day

NSS was formally launched on 24th September 1969, the birth centenary year of the Father of the Nation.

 

College level advisory committee:

Like the State and University Advisory committees, there is an Advisory Committees in the colleges which are functioning and monitoring the NSS activities in the grass-root levels

 

Composition of College Advisory Committee

  4. One representative from the adopted village /slum / Member welfare agency
  5. 2 NSS student leaders Members
  6. Programme Officer, NSS Member secretary

Every College Unit has an Advisory Committee to sort out the NSS programmes for the year, its implementations and evaluation and to assess the development of NSS programmes in the Institution and promote a sense of participation. As per schedule, the advisory committee is  to meet four times in a year or if necessary it may be more than that. The Committee can adopt suitable programmes on the basis of the local demand and review, evaluate the programmes but it cannot change the main policies and decisions issued by the Govt, of India

NSS Programme Officer and

The Programme Officer, who is a member of the teaching faculty provides necessary leadership to the youth/NSS students. The teacher/NSS programme officer has the professional knowledge and skills. He/she is also a representative of the school/college and the educated elite and knows the needs and aspirations of student youth. Further he/she is expected to be a role model of the values and the norms of the institution and the society as a whole. Therefore, he/she is the fittest person to provide necessary lead to the students in developing their personality through community service. In fact the Programme Officer is a friend, philosopher and guide to the students in achieving this goal.

NSS Volunteer

The NSS Volunteer,who is a college level student is the main beneficiary of the programme by way of development of his/her perception about the community, his/her skill to perform certain jobs, and develop quality of a leader, organiser, and an administrator and development of his/her personality as a whole. Through NSS, he/she gets opportunities to see the community closely and thus gets an experience of human nature in relation to his/her environment. This is how the NSS programme aims to make NSS student youth better citizens through “Development of their personality through Community Service”.
